When was the last time you had your feet measured?

Many people assume that once their feet stop growing, their shoe size stays the same forever. But that's not always the case. Your feet can change over time due to age, weight changes, pregnancy, injury, or the gradual stretching of ligaments in our feet.

That is why getting our feet measured occasionally is still important even into adulthood.

A proper measurement helps ensure:
• The right LENGTH for toe room
• The right WIDTH to avoid pressure
• The right FIT so your foot sits where the shoe is designed to flex

Even small changes in fit can lead to discomfort, fatigue, or foot problems if left unaddressed.

If it's been a while since your last measurement, it might be worth checking again. You might be surprised what you find.

One of the most overlooked parts of shoe care is keeping the inside of your footwear dry.

After a full day of wear, shoes collect moisture from sweat, along with that comes salts and acids left behind from your feet. If that moisture sits too long, it can lead to odor, material breakdown, and loss of shape.

That's where shoe trees come into play. Shoe trees, particularly ones made of cedar, help maintain the original shape of your footwear while absorbing moisture and odors at the same time.

Don't have shoe trees? No problem. Clean packing paper, tissue paper, or paper towels can help absorb moisture and keep things fresh in a pinch. However, we advise avoiding newspaper as the ink used can transfer when wetted to your footwear interior.

A small habit like this can go a long way toward making your shoes last longer.

Short answer: They're supposed to.

Before you pack away your winter boots for the season, don't forget one important step: REMOVE THE SALT.

Road salt pulls moisture out of the leather, causing those stubborn white stains and over time, that leads to drying, cracking, and permanent damage.

🛁 A quick clean now = boots that look better and lasts longer next winter.

Quick Fix:
• Mix equal parts white vinegar + water
• Gently wipe the affected areas
• Finish with an oiled sponge or shoe cream (for leather) to restore moisture

👣 Fit Check Wednesday: Snug or Tight 👣

Fluff makes fitting UGGs tricky. Too tight and they can hurt your feet — too big and they’ll slide right off. There is a difference between snug and tight.

We often hear customers say they can feel the front of the shoe. This is common because UGGs are lined with a luxurious shearling interior that fills out the toe box. You will feel the shearling against your toes, and that’s normal. The solution is not to size up as going bigger usually means the boot won’t stay securely on your foot.

The proper fit for UGGs means your toes should not be hitting the actual front of the shoe.
To check: gently pinch the front of the boot to locate your toe. You should have about ½"–¾" of space in front of it. This allows room for natural movement while accounting for the shearling packing down over time.

More space than that? You risk ending up with a boot that feels too big once the lining compresses and the leather stretches.

Want to keep your shoes looking newer, longer? 👞✨

Shoe cream is one of the easiest ways to revive leather and protect your investment — here is a step-by-step guide to using shoe cream.

1️⃣ Preparation: Remove laces and use a horsehair brush to remove surface dust. If the shoes are very dirty, wipe them with a slightly damp cloth and let them dry. Inserting shoe trees helps maintain the shape during the process.

2️⃣ Application: Using a cotton cloth, brush, or applicator sponge, apply a small amount of cream. To test the color for matching, apply cream to the back of the heel. Massage the cream into the leather using small, circular motions.

3️⃣ Coverage: Ensure an even, thin layer covers the all leather portions that match the shoe cream color.

4️⃣ Let Dry: Allow the cream to sit for 5–15 minutes to penetrate and nourish the leather.

5️⃣ Buff: Use a horsehair brush to buff the entire shoe, which removes excess cream and produces a natural, soft shine.

6️⃣ Optional 2nd Coat: For added hydration, repeat the cream application and finish with a non-silicone waterproofing spray.

Short answer: No.
There isn’t a single shoe that’s truly better on bare ice without a little extra help.

The only reliable way to get traction on ice is with:
• Internal retractable cleats
• External crampons or strap-on spikes

Some footwear does feature “ice-grip” rubber soles, but these don’t guarantee traction. They tend to work best on wet ice and packed snow, not smooth, dry ice. While nothing is perfect, these options can still offer helpful added grip in winter conditions.

At the moment, we are sold out of our ice-grip rubber boots and retractable cleated boots. However, a few brands to keep an eye out for in the future include NexGrip (retractable cleats) and Oboz (with Vibram Arctic Grip soles), which are designed specifically for icy conditions.

We hear this a lot and it's a great question. Shoes that are too tight can lead to bunions, stress fractures, and long-term discomfort.

👉 Start with the right length!
Proper length positions your foot correctly inside the shoe. The ball of your foot (the joint at your big toe) should sit in the widest part of the shoe. This is where the width really matters.

✨ The Goal:
Your shoe should feel snug and secure, not tight or pinched. You should be able to:

• Spread your toes naturally
• Move comfortably in the toe box
• Avoid any squeezing or excessive pressure

Downtown parking can feel tricky, but we’ve got a tip that makes it easy. While street parking fills up fast, Lot R and Lot G are usually wide open — especially this time of year.

These are our closest options and are located just about 100 feet from our back door. Both lots offer 2-hour metered parking, and Lot G has a pay station that accepts credit cards (no digging for change!).
Cost is about $1.50 per hour.

👣 Fit Check: Do Those Old Boots Fit? 👣

Winter boots are different.
They don’t fit like anything else in your shoe collection and for good reason. Their job is to keep you warm and dry. Here are a few fitting guidelines to help make sure you have the right pair:

🦶 Ample Toe Room:
Make sure you can wiggle your toes. Space means warmth and freedom from discomfort. That extra room is also needed for thicker winter socks.

🦶 Heel Slip:
About ¼" to ½" of heel slip is normal. Any more than that can lead to blisters and trouble keeping the boot securely on your foot.

🧦 Socks:
Always try boots on with your winter socks, since they take up more space than everyday socks.

🦵 The Kick Test:
Lightly kick a wall/post/door frame. If your toes hit the front of the boot, they’re too small.

Follow these guidelines and you’ll be well on your way to the perfect fit. Already have a pair at home? See if they meet these standards — and if not, it may be time for an upgrade.
